The Sacrament of Reconciliation has been historically called the Sacrament of Penance and the Sacrament of Confession. If your child is not in a Catholic School and wishes to prepare for First Holy Communion and Confession please pass on your details to the Parish Priest.
The sacrament of Reconciliation is where we come to Christ, through the priest, to repent of our sins and receive total forgiveness. The grace we receive through this sacrament helps us resist those things by which we are tempted.
Children will be prepared for this sacrament at the same time as they are prepared for their First Holy Communion. Adults coming into full communion with the Catholic Church will be prepared as part of their Journey in Faith through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
All the baptised faithful are required to come to this sacrament once a year as a minimum (during Lent) but it really helps us grow as people of God by more regular reception of the sacrament. Monthly is very helpful to the spiritual life. Even if you haven't been for years - this is a good time to start over. None of us like to think about what we have done wrong, but this sacrament is the most wonderful sacrament of healing.
